On International Museum Day, May 18, a historical and botanical walk “On the Trails of Jean-Henri Munz” was held, led by Kateryna Loyenko, a junior research associate in the Department of Nature Conservation.<\/p>\n
Guests of the Reserve learned about the first steps in creating a park in Korsun. In the early 1780s, artist and architect Jean-Henri M\u00fcnz developed a concept and laid the foundations of a palace and park ensemble in our city for Prince Stanislav Poniatowski. He incredibly harmoniously combined the natural beauty of the Korsun region and unique, fashionable at that time, introduced plants brought from different parts of the world.<\/p>\n
At the end of the 18th century, the medicinal and vegetable gardens of the Polish nobility were not only a source of food, but also an element of prestige, culture and imitation of European trends. In Korsun, a section of decorative gardens was created on Deni Island, where, in addition to colorful flowers, spicy and aromatic herbs were grown: lavender, celery, basil, fennel, sage, parsnip, etc. They were cultivated not only as fashionable curiosities of the time, but also used as seasonings for dishes and to create a fragrant atmosphere in rooms. Fruit trees also grew on Deni Island. At that time, the popular pear varieties were Duchess, Conference, Williams and Bere Bosk, apples Antonivka, Malinovka, Borovinka, Calville white winter, Aport, etc. Apricots and peaches of French, English and German folk selection were also grown.<\/p>\n
The Korsun Palace and Park Ensemble of Prince Stanis\u0142aw Poniatowski impressed with the beauty of its architecture, landscapes, and plant compositions. In May 1787, the Polish King Stanis\u0142aw August Poniatowski, while visiting his nephew in Korsun, on Deni Island, spent two hours admiring the garden and surrounding landscapes.<\/p>\n
