On April 4, in honor of the Remembrance Day of Hero of Ukraine Vasyl Serhiyenko—Hero of the Heavenly Hundred, active public figure, journalist, sociologist, and poet—a commemorative event titled “The Character of Dignity” took place at the Military Museum of the Reserve.
Among the attendees were Vasyl Serhiyenko’s wife Valentyna Zakharivna, his friends and like-minded supporters, local residents, and students of Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi Gymnasium No. 2, where Vasyl Mykolaiovych once studied.
The participants observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of Vasyl Serhiyenko and all heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine’s freedom. Deeply heartfelt and emotional were the memories shared by Anatolii Bezuglyi and Anatolii Romaniuk, reflecting on Serhiyenko’s political and civic work.
Lidiia Ovsiienko, Deputy Director for Research of the Reserve, spoke about the multifaceted personality of Vasyl Serhiyenko—his thirst for knowledge, his humanity, and his deep love for his family. Students presented key milestones of his life.
Kateryna Loienko, Junior Research Associate of the Reserve, recited Serhiyenko’s poem “You’re Not Sleeping Tonight.” Participants watched the documentary “The Case of Vasyl Serhiyenko” produced by Suspilne (Cherkasy) and explored his poetry collections from the museum’s archives.
In the memory of the people of Korsun, Vasyl Serhiyenko will forever remain an unbroken fighter for a democratic, independent Ukraine and a symbol of the indomitable Ukrainian spirit.
