K.H. Stetsenko Memorial Museum
K.H. Stetsenko Memorial Museum in the village of Kvitky was founded in 1959. The initiated its creation were the local school teacher Bazko and the librarian I. Palyvoda. Originally the museum was in the house of culture, from 1970 – in the premises of parish schools (single-class public schools) , from 1982 – in the recreated indoors of parish school. Since 1994, the museum is part of the Korsun-Shevchenkivskiy State Historical and Cultural Preserve as a scientific research department.
The authors of the current exhibition of the museum were the head of museum in Kvitky and the head of the History Museum – Department of the History Museum of Korsun-Shevchenkivskiy battle A . Nikolenko. The decorating was accomplished by Kyiv artists is Shatilov’s.
The exposition of the museum presents more than 400 museum objects which reproduce the life and creative path of the composer. These are documents, photographs, books, household items of the last quarter of the XIX century etc. The works by the composer are reproduced, in particular, “Karmelyuk”, “Swim, swim, lebedonko (hen-swan)”, “Path is twining”, “Testament”, “Prometheus”, “Spring, spring”, “Evening Song”, “Slumber”; a collection of songs for family and school “Echo” (1907); children operas: “Foxy, Kitty and Cockerel”, “Ivasyk-Telesyk”; “Oh, gop, chiki-chiki” ; notes to H. Kvitka-Osnovyanenko’s play “The match-making at Honcharivka” .
Among the unique exhibits there is a portrait of his father, painted by Kyrylo at the age of 9, and a self-portrait, the date of which had not been established. These works testify to the talent of Kyrylo Grygorovych as an artist.
The exhibition also presents exhibits that tell about the life and career of the descendants of the composer, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nowadays the museum is holding a gradual re-exhibition. The task of building a new exhibition is the needs of visitors in obtaining new information about K.H. Stetsenko as a composer, a teacher, a priest of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Church. Life and work of K.H. Stetsenko will be shown in the context of modern vision of the history of Ukraine.
