These days, the Reserve’s collection has been replenished with valuable items of historical interior design – a rare sofa and a chest. They were used by the family of Evdokia Panteleimonovna Kovtun, born in 1927, a resident of the village of Nabutiv (now Cherkasy district), Cherkasy region. The furniture is in good condition. It seems that they still retain the warmth and comfort of a Ukrainian home.
Of particular interest is the sofa, which is an important element in the study of the evolution of Ukrainian life. It is covered in brown leatherette and has a back wall with a floral ornament in the center (in place of a mirror). Under the elastic seat block, there is a storage box along the entire surface. Despite its considerable age, everything about the sofa is original: fasteners, wooden parts, and upholstery.
The chest is interesting from an ethnographic point of view. As is known, in the Ukrainian home it served as a universal cabinet for things, a table or even a bench. The chest has an easy-to-open lid, side handles that make it convenient to carry, and wide legs that provide stability. It combines strength, durability and natural beauty.
The ethnographic collection of the Reserve will be complemented by a homespun ryadno, woven on a loom from white hemp threads by the tireless hands of Evdokia Panteleimonovna.
These artifacts were given to us by the niece of E.P. Kovtun – Tetyana Volodymyrivna Peretyatko, who draws strength and inspiration for her tireless public activities not only from the history of the Nadrosyansk region, but also from preserving the history of her family.
