This is what the youth called the removal of part of the concrete sculpture of a lion, which was in the canal of the hydroelectric power station in the territory of the Korsun-Shevchenko Park. We do not know how it got there. When a few years ago the lion’s head became visible from the third bridge as a result of the lowering of the water level, it haunted many. However, most of those who wanted to remove it did so only for words.
On April 24, at the initiative of students of the Korsun-Shevchenko Pedagogical Vocational College named after T.G. Shevchenko, with the support of the city council and with the help of Korsun entrepreneurs and volunteers, Operation “Lion” was successfully carried out. The lion’s head was pulled out of the water and transferred to the Reserve.
Thank you to everyone for the work, which was quite difficult.
The head is part of a lion sculpture, and there was also a lioness sculpture. They stood in the park on both sides of the central alley, in front of the third bridge. Parents loved to take pictures of their young children near them. According to photos from the Reserve’s collection, this was in the 1960s – early 1980s.
A lion’s head pulled from the river needs restoration.
