For International Museum Day

At the Historical Museum, Lidiia Ovsiienko, Deputy Director of the Reserve for Scientific Work, conducted a thematic tour titled “From the History of Archaeological Research in the Korsun Region.”

She spoke to the audience about the discovery and study of a Late Paleolithic site located within the Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi Park, a Trypillian settlement on the outskirts of the village of Harbuzyn, and a Cimmerian culture burial mound near the village of Kvitky. She drew special attention to a gold plate depicting scenes from Scythian life, discovered in a mound near the village of Sakhnivka. She also provided a detailed analysis of the archaeological findings from the Stebliv Scythian burial complex and shared her observations on the location of burial mounds along the left bank of the Ros River in and around Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi.

The tour also covered an interesting complex of archaeological sites from the Chernyakhiv and Penkivka cultures in the areas of Zavadivka, Cherepyn, and Vilkhivchyk.

One of the most captivating parts of the tour was the story of the Poros Defense Line, constructed in the 11th century, with the Korsun Fortress being one of the earliest among its series of fortifications. Guests paid close attention to photographs of unique jewelry pieces found at the site of this ancient fortress near the village of Sakhnivka, dating back to the era of Kyivan Rus.
