For the 185th anniversary of the birth of I.S. Nechuy-Levytsky, a number of events were held to honor the memory of the writer.

On November 21, 2023, an interesting online discussion “Unknown portrait of Ivan Nechuy-Levytskyi” was organized by the employees of the Yevhen Pluzhnyk Central District Library of the Shevchenko district of Kyiv. Andriy Khavrus, head of the I.S. Nechuy-Levytsky Literary Memorial Museum, became a guest of the library. Fans of the writer’s work heard interesting facts about the history of the writer’s museum, about the role and place of Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky in the literary process of the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries, when the Ukrainian language was banned.

On November 23, eleventh-graders of the Stebliv Lyceum attended the literary class “Education of I. Nechuy-Levytsky at the Bohuslav Theological School”. The event was conducted by Andriy Khavrus.

On November 24, at 9:30, a rally was held near the monument to I.S. Nechuyu-Levytsky in Stebliv to honor the memory of the writer. On the same day, the Cherkasy Regional Universal Scientific Library named after Taras Shevchenko hosted the round table “The Inaudible Word Lives”, organized by the Department of Culture and Cultural Heritage Protection of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration. The following participated and spoke in the event: Deputy Chairman of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Oleksandr Shamrai, Head of the Department of Culture and Cultural Heritage Protection of the Cherkasy State Administration Oleksandr Shabatin, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Polishchuk, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Vitaly Masnenko. At the round table session, Andriy Khavrus spoke with the message “His vocation is to be Ukrainian”.

During the week, an exhibition of modern editions of Nechuy’s works and a banner with I.S. Nechuy-Levytsky’s apt quotes about the Ukrainian literary language and national culture, prepared by junior researcher Lyudmila Pakhomova, were on display in the writer’s museum in the town of Stebliv.

During the Nechuy’s week, many visitors came to the museum, including students of the Kvitchan Lyceum, Korsun-Shevchenkiv Secondary School № 1, Datsky Gymnasium, Stepansi Secondary School, as well as students of the Bohuslav Humanitarian Vocational College named after I.S. Nechuy-Levytsky, Korsun- Shevchenksvsky Vocational Lyceum.

On November 25, a delegation from Kyiv headed by candidate of philological sciences, deputy director of the T.G. Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Serhiy Galchenko, arrived in Stebliv to honor the memory of I. Nechuy-Levytsky. The guests laid flowers at the monument to I. Nechuy-Levytsky and visited the museum.

On November 25, the writer’s museum hosted an Open Day.

In general, the Nechue’s week was rich and interesting. It is very nice that our society is returning to the real Nechui. We hope that after such events, many people will want to read or rethink and reconsider the works of the writer, as well as visit the literary and memorial museum of I.S. Nechuy-Levytskyi.
