To mark the 107th anniversary of the death of Ivan Semenovych Nechui-Levytskyi, the Nechui Readings were held at the Stebliv Lyceum named after him. This annual event is part of the educational project “Outstanding Figures of Ukraine” and is conducted jointly with scholars from the Literary-Memorial Museum of I.S. Nechui-Levytskyi.
Andriy Khavrus, head of the writer’s museum, gave a presentation to eleventh-grade students about Nechui’s life and teaching activities, as well as his significant contributions to Ukrainian literature and the development of the Ukrainian literary language. The students recited excerpts from memoirs by Mariia Hrinchenko, describing the writer’s difficult final years.
At the conclusion of the event, Andriy Khavrus presented rare photographs from Nechui-Levytskyi’s funeral, recently discovered in the archives of the Ukrainian Museum and Library in Stamford, USA. These photos were found and digitized by the prominent researcher Vasyl Lopukh and published for the first time. They were taken by an unknown photographer who served in the Sich Riflemen Battalion of the Ukrainian National Republic Army. The riflemen honorably accompanied the great Ukrainian writer on his final journey.
